Comfort zone – should I stay or should I go?
Staying in a job or a relationship, comforting. Changing the way you see the world? no way!!! or are you tempted? tempted to go out of the comfort zone and into the magic zone. Most of us have tried to get out of our comfort zone at one point or other in our lives, change jobs, learn a new skill, some have managed to stay out and create a new comfort zone, some have gone back to what they know. The comfort zone can make you happy, everything is familiar and you control every aspect of it.
Sitting in traffic everyday to go to the same job, it’s your comfort zone because it’s what you know. Even if you find every aspect of your job annoying, boring, demotivating, you stay there, it’s your comfort zone, it’s what you know. Same thing for your relationships, having fun, fighting, keeping up the same behavior is your comfort zone, it’s what you know.
Your habits, routines, skills, knowledge, attitude, behavior are all part of your comfort zone.
Now there is a zone, just outside the comfort zone that you may want to go and explore, touch, learn about, it’s scary out there but exciting too, it’s the magic zone. It’s where your dreams are, those dreams you had a few weeks ago, a few months, years, decades ago. Every now and then, you are reminded of them and most of the time you ignore them. I know I did.
Then I though to myself, “what if?”. What if the grass is greener in a different job? what if the grass is greener if I change my relationships? what if the grass is greener when I surround myself with positive people and have a positive attitude? then it was OMG, what do I do now? how? where? what? panic! but I am stubborn, I kept on going, changing, learning new skills, consolidating old ones, and it happened, for me, the grass was greener on the other side, I know what I want, what my dream is and I’m striving to get it. It’s not always easy, it takes time and the lure of my old comfort zone is still there and sometimes I allow myself to go back to that part of my new comfort zone. That’s the beauty of comfort zones, they change with you, they stretch with every new knowledge, new skill you learn, with every new friendship, relationship you make.
Don’t get me wrong, staying in your old comfort zone is ok, it’s great even for some. But if you have even the slightest itch to go and experience something new, as scary as that may be, contact me, I can accompany you to the magic zone. During our journey together, you can go back to your comfort zone anytime you like or create a new comfort zone, you control the situation. You decide what you want and set yourself a goal and I help you find a way.
Have a wonderful day!
